Andy's Buttermilk Syrup

We call this "Andy's Syrup," but this recipe actually came from Kristen's roommate when they were all at Snow College.  It is the best topping for French toast, waffles, pancakes... you could even serve it over ice cream.


2 cubes butter
1 C buttermilk*
2 C sugar2 tsp corn syrup
1 tsp baking soda
2 tsp vanilla*

Use a large pot because the volume of this recipe increases more than you first expect it to.  Boil the first four ingredients for five minutes.  Add the last two ingredients.

*If you don't have buttermilk on hand, try this:  add 1 T white vinegar OR 1 T lemon juice to 1 C milk, then let it sit for 5-10 minutes.  

*For a flavor variation, try 1 tsp vanilla extract and 1 tsp coconut extract.
